Private landlords are being asked to provide homes for three refugee families, after North Somerset Council failed to find properties within housing benefit rates.
North Somerset Council committed to finding three homes for Syrian refugees earlier this year, but its efforts have so far proved unsuccessful, and the local authority is now seeking landlords with family-sized properties, ideally with two-plus bedrooms.
It is understood that tenancy agreements of up to five years are preferred, mainly due to the fact that this offers more stability for the families. However, tenancies over 12 months will also be considered.
A council spokesman said: “We are struggling to access suitable accommodation for Syrian refugee families where the rent is within housing benefit rates and as a result have not been able to accommodate any refugees to date.”
