NLA to provide training for landlords in Wales

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has been officially approved as an official Rent Smart Wales training provider.

Working in association with the UK Association of Letting Agents (UKALA), the NLA secured approval to provide training for both landlords and letting agents.

Rent Smart Wales, which launched almost six months ago, is the mandatory registration and licensing scheme for landlords and agents in Wales.

The scheme requires all landlords and letting agents to register their properties and undergo training to obtain a licence if they wish to self-manage.

Landlords and agents have been given until 23 November 2016 in which to comply with the new legislation, before it then becomes an offence to let or manage a property without the correct licence.

Richard Price, director of operations at the NLA, said: “We are delighted to announce that the NLA will be providing training for landlords and for agents for licensing in Wales. NLA members and UKALA members will also qualify for discounts.

“While we have argued that a national register for landlords and agents is not necessarily the right approach to raising standards, we welcome the opportunity to work together with the Welsh Government to provide landlords and agents with the information and guidance they need.”
