Landlord is fined for 'blighting' neighbours by dumping rubbish

A landlord has been fined almost £1,300 for dumping rubbish at the rear of his rental property in Grays.

Ardon Jardine, who owns a property on Chadwell Road, Grays, was forced to pay a total of £1,258 at Basildon Magistrates Court last week, after council officers visited the property and found soft furnishings, bin liners and carrier bags, white goods and cut down shrubbery dumped outside his property.

Jardine, who lives at a different address in south London, was found guilty of Failure to Comply with Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 Section 4 Notice and Non-Removal of Items likely to ‘Provide Harbourage for Pests’.

Rob Gledhill, head of Thurrock Council, said: “We have shown – once again – when we find evidence of people illegally spoiling the borough we will use the full force of the law to bring them to justice.

“Landlords should know even if they don’t live in the borough, we will track them down and they will pay the price for blighting neighbours and residents.

“In Thurrock, we have the Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre known as The Tip, as well as the bulky waste collection service. So there is no excuse for dumping in the borough.”
