Free Home Safety Improvements: Landlords may be eligible

Landlords, tenants and residents in parts of Nottingham may be eligible for free home safety improvements to crackdown on burglary.

Nottinghamshire police force has secured £432,000 from the government to invest in safety improvements.

The funding is being invested in a raft of security upgrades and additional policing to reduce the fear of crime and prevent households and individuals falling victim to criminals.

The project will fund free security upgrades at up to 500 residential properties including previous burglary victims and neighbouring properties.

Improvements will be based on risk and vulnerability and could include new window and door locks, window alarms, external lights, external CCTV, repairs or security improvements to doors and windows, and where repairs to gates or perimeter fencing.

There will also be doorbell devices for to up to 375 student properties in the area.

The Police force’s Safer Streets Burglary Reduction Officer, Julian Best will carry out a free risk assessment and if necessary, will arrange security upgrades to reduce the risk of homes being targeted or targeted again.

To see if you are eligible abs to apply, contact Burglary Reduction Officer Julian Best julian.best@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

The service has released a Q&A about the initiative.

Do I qualify for a risk assessment? You may be eligible if you live or own a property, including houses and apartments in the Lenton Triangle area or parts of the Arboretum area, and have been a burglary victim or could potentially be at risk.

Will it cost me anything? No. These services are free of charge thanks to the Safer Streets Partnership. However, if you are eligible for Wi-Fi/4G CCTV or video doorbells, there will be a small monthly subscription charge (£4pm to cover 4G data usage on 4G CCTV or £2.50pm for doorbell video history/saving).

What happens after the assessment? We will carry out the necessary security upgrades to your property if you are eligible.

What do I get? Depending on the findings of the risk assessment and if you qualify as eligible, your home could be fitted with security improvements including upgraded window and door locks, external security lighting and window alarms, Wi-Fi/4G CCTV and video doorbells, and repairs to doors, windows and fencing/gates if this would help to improve overall security.
