Another council offering £10k refurb grants to private landlords

A council says grants of up to £10,000 are available to landlords to refurbish homes which could ensure vulnerable people in the area have a roof over their heads.

Wigan council wants to form partnerships with landlords owning one bedroom apartments, self-contained flats or studios in the area. 

Grant funding is available via the Greater Manchester Next Steps Accommodation Programme to bring the property up to lettable standard.

An all-inclusive management package is available via the council’s so-called ‘Ethical Lettings Agency’ with a guaranteed monthly income on offer - regardless of whether the property is occupied or not.

Councillor Terry Halliwell, leading on housing issues on the council, says: “Every long-term empty home in the borough is a wasted resource so we want to work closely with landlords who can support this important need.

“Now is the perfect opportunity to build on all the good work that has taken place during the pandemic to help vulnerable people secure a place they can call home.”

"Wigan council is keen to work with empty homeowners and help them bring their home back into use with advice and financial assistance for refurbishments available.”

Agreements to provide properties are needed by March 31 and refurbishment works must be complete with the property handed over on a lease by June 30.

 

 

Bespoke tenancy support will be provided with the homes.

    Sometimes, you have the option of handing over the property to the council, even with the £10,000 grant.

    Inventory checks are done, and the council will be responsible for any repairs or damages.

    The rent will normally be slightly less in these circumstances.

    Some councils have been known to offer LL's up to £4,500 just for taking a tenant from the council list.

    They are playing games with us, £10k grant for slum LL's then guaranteed rent and free management as a reward for doing nothing, to house people doing nothing, not too long ago I could have bought a slum house in Wigan for £10k or Bolton. LL's who look after their property do their best to it in good repair, Council can't wait to penalize him & fine him £10k or more or that might even be their fee for nothing. Claw back the rent even despise him and go so far as teach Tenants a corruption scheme to get all their rent back after they had full use of the property it disgusting behavior by LA.

    Never mind we'll have more nonsense next Wednesday March 3rd Budget day. Capital gains tax hike to prevent us from leaving the Market they have to keep us there to be able to torture us in the future. Stamp Duty Holiday extended for sure, 95% Mortgages to rope-in our Tenants then they'll be stuck there for 35 years. This has to happen to look after the Big Boys Building High Rise Blocks of unnecessary flats not needed, so they have to destroy us they need our Tenants to Buy them, who else is going to be buying them, not the Benefit Claimants, they are not giving up free living its a Contagious Disease can't pay for anything themselves after that. Unfortunately Private LL's are already serving a life Sentence no reprieve.
