Right To Rent video checks extended until late June

The Home Office has told agents that Right To Rent checks can continue to be conducted via video calls until June 20 - the previous deadline of this weekend has been extended by around a month.

In April, the government gave a May 16 deadline for the end of the temporary system whereby checks could be carried out with applicants submitting scanned or photographed documents.

This new late June deadline brings it roughly into line with the next scheduled wind-down in pandemic restrictions in the government roadmap.

The Home Office has already backtracked on its original desire for temporary video checks to be confirmed with full in-person checks at the end of the pandemic.

The government says this is now not required and this “reflects the length of time the adjusted checks have been in place and supports landlords during this difficult time.”
