Never trust a council! Not ever! If you’re going to deal with them then let THEM be the tenants with a right to sublet! They maintain the property, insure it , do all the safety stuff and pay you rent which they have collected. And if the tenant is a rogue then they can try to evict him while he gets the council itself to attack itself for harassing the cherub , sorry, the tenant!

This has to be a sinister scheme by the govt. There are lots of tradespeople in areas with FHL who say that they would have no work if FHL was killed off in those places. But they don’t care: they simply want to increase the PRS after having made PRS less appealing. It is the govt that caused the rise in FHL!

It’s the oldest trick there is that the self-righteous government uses: you pretend to care then force someone else to do the caring. That person is the LL and if he complains then he is a meany! Why stop there? You could order the landlord to buy the tenant’s food, clothe her kids, buy TV license, throw in some trainers and generally adopt them! I am soooo glad I left AST! So are my friends. We have taken more than 20 properties out of circulation and leave them empty or let guests use them. It’s a protest!

I will not have tenants at any price! Not in this country! I do FHL and am willing to put in the work knowing that my guests are not going to be from hell with the government as their pal! Any tenant knows that he can go rogue on you nowadays! Let the council house them!

My tenants don’t fund my lifestyle which is a basic one. I haven’t had a holiday for years as I cannot afford one. I constantly improve and maintain my flats which are low rent. My tenants respect me and think they are in tenant- heaven. Soon tenant hell if I am forced to sell up to a normal landlord. Lots of good landlords will have to leave. Is that what you want to see?

If the government stopped treating decent landlords like villains and bad tenants like angels then BTL would thrive. I run holiday flats for one reason alone: I will never have tenants in the UK! I used to be a very good landlord until I had a tenant from hell who was supported be the authorities in everything he did.

I have holiday flats which are full all year. I used to be very happy renting normally and was known to be a great landlord - which I was. Low rents and good maintenance of the property. Then one day I got a tenant from hell and I could do nothing as he had all the backing of the authorities. I was a Landlord and therefore must have been Satan!!! That was it! Once I bribed him to leave (that’s his modus operandi) I gave up being a landlord and went Airbnb. It’s nothing to do with the money. I simply refuse to be treated like the villain by a biased system! And do you know why they make it so difficult to evict nasty tenants? Because they would have to house them, that’s why! So they go all sanctimonious on the landlord. That tenant destroyed my psyche! I wanted to shoot him. So the hell with being a good landlord : from now I will be a good host (I get 5*, by the way).

I worked two real jobs to save the money to buy a small btl for my future. Nobody objected: especially to the extra tax I paid which helped pay for nurses etc! I have seen tenants who are loaded save thousands whilst their poorer landlords suffered. Best advice for a beleaguered landlord: find a powerful villainous landlord and sell to him. He overcomes all the rules and gets away with it: no bad tenant dares complain. That’s what you get when you drive out the decent landlords.

My rules: full payment for the 6 months plus a good deposit. Otherwise no deal. This is a response to government policy which encourages the cheats!

I refuse to have tenants now: just short term visitors who I know have good jobs in their own countries. That means no British residents at all. The government gives tenants the right to abuse us - in reality! Screw them!

Dear Government, I, a struggling landlord, need to negotiate a lower tax rate. And be able to claim for mortgage interest! And be able to reduce my BTL rate. Perhaps if you would forego the £330 per day you get for turning up at The H of Lords (arseholes) and having a cheap lunch you could sub me! Meanwhile why don’t you buy some property and house your cherubs? See what it’s like!

I used to be a very benevolent LL for DHSS people. Really good. Then one day I took in a professional bad tenant! He drove out all the other tenants and he was just rotten. He had the "caring"council on his side. I could not get him out. So, I sold the property cheap with him in it : to the most evil landlord in history: untouchable: gives orders to sidekicks to have knees capped etc! Nothing could be proven! Result: the are lost a great and caring LL and gained yet more lettings for a scumbag! Other result: scum tenant not seen for dust as he ran away! You are living in dreamland - as I once was! Wait till you get a bad one and it takes ages to get him out!

Then they can give themselves hassle, fine themselves and imprison themselves while a million more homeless people sleep in railway stations, shop entrances and hopefully, outside Number 10! I got into FHL in 1989; long before it became a phenomenon. Why? After years of being a great landlord I got one evil tenant who knew how to use the system. The council was there to kiss his arse no matter how bad he was. I sold the property to an evil landlord. Result: good landlord gone: crap landlord gets bigger. Simply: councils don’t want the cost of B&Bing scum tenants any sooner than they have to. So it takes an age to get them out. Lots of good landlords are fed up. It’s the sanctimonious rule makers who will actually increase homelessness! Idiots!
