Good luck to him. These licensing schemes are just another way of squeezing money from private landlords. In our local area (Charnwood,Leics.) the proposed scheme will put money raised back into... the administration ! Why not use the money raised for supporting schemes for the homeless instead of another layer of bureaucracy?

If this scheme was operating in order to address homelessness with funds raised I would (as a local landlord in Charnwood) fully support the initiative. However, it seems that it could be yet another way of raising money for more useless time-wasting bureaucracy! I have lived in this area for 36 years and been a landlord for over 20. The number of irresponsible landlords locally are very few and are well known to the authorities already. This scheme will deter new, younger people from buying- to- let in Charnwood and create even more homelessness than exists at present.

Exactly! The bottom line is that the government does not want to take on any responsibility for vulnerable people who are unable to pay rent. Their ongoing strategy is to demonise small private landlords .

My view is that prices will dip but then rise sharply at the end of the year. Many people will hesitate to invest in stocks and shares for a couple of years and may see property as a safer investment long-term?
