This sounds like a bargain to me. I'm currently evicting a tenant who now owes 4 months rent, had to give her all correct notice period of 2 months, should be evicted tomorrow but council have told her not to leave so now court, costs and another 4 months free lodgings. I'm now on credit cards just to keep my family running. It's blatantly obvious to me that this council has no idea of the pain and expense of having a tenant who is playing the system. If I were less conscientious I would also change locks and accept the fine and save my own family suffering hardship

" conscientious landlords have nothing to fear" Except yet more costs, apparently to pay for officers to do the job they are already funded to do, but are to lazy to enforce the powers they already have. We've all seen the programs and know how lame these officers can be. The real problem slum landlords won't be the ones who pay for a new licence

I agree with you Andrew, we have taken plenty of advice from tax experts and know what's coming so I find this survey surprising. I think what the government is doing is disgraceful, we have saved and worked hard to build a better future going without things now to ensure a better earlier retirement only to have it all taken away from us by a deluded Chancellor. Why did we bother?

We were buying the worst properties which obviously first timers couldn't buy, then refurbing to a very high standard. With all these changes coming through it is unlikely we will keep any more as btl, those which we do rent we need to increase the rent to maintain cash flow in the future. I find it discusting the way landlords are being victimised over tax. No other business gets taxed on turnover , what are they thinking? Its against our human rights and will be successfully challenge in court by Cherie Blair. We get no thanks for providing a great service which the government have failed to provide. This will bite them in the rear. PM
