O to say us landlords are greedy and living off tenants.. I am not greedy and have let out for nearly 50 years so come across a good few different tenants. I live on the income as now retired and had not the money to build up a good pension as brought up my children alone as my husband died quite suddenly. To say taking money from the tenant, - yes for an essential roof over their heads that the council cannot provide. That with food is of coarse essential but if they have a flashy car, huge tv etc. is that essential are those manufacturers not greedy grabbing their money ? I really think you have it wrong in some ways Paul. I always try and stay just under the going rent - not much and in return I keep my houses top notch and get my rent every month. Being too grabbing - not good. I can now look back on my letting and know I have been fair - no regrets and rewarded with a good satisfying business because that is what it is.

Surly the council could have housed a woman with two children in some way then the landlord would not be getting rent, is their no control over where benefit monies go ? Also no way that if court fines are not paid, money is taken straight from that persons account. Ok, ok big brother taking over. Only in the case where was necessary as otherwise although judge said pay, means nothing if the person does not comply and got to just start again ! More money to be paid out by the person in the right !

Come on let’s have the same rule for tenants as Landlords, let’s be fair. A list of both bad Landlords and bad tenants, all us good landlords would be happy with that, be a big plus for us. Happy Christmas, wonder what new ideas the government brings in, in 2018 Anne R.

I also will never again take benefit tenants for one reason only, I need to have the rent paid as I am now retired and it is the Landlords house. We are providing accommodation because the council cannot. When I rang the council to ask them to pay the rent directly to me they said if the claim proved to be fraud I would have to pay all the rent back. What are you talking about 1.that money is for accommodation I am providing because you can’t. 2 I am not assessing the claim you are, it’s your job. 3 that is not your money or the tenants it is mine for the accommodation I am providing. I wonder why benefit tenants are suppose after not being able to organise money to suddenly be able, when given possibly £1,000s, to budget. Pardon me, not possible. The rules must be changed so Landlords can be assured they get their rent paid. More and more of us just cannot take the risk anymore sorry just not on. Let’s start being realistic and handle this problem with sense, completely unworkable at the moment the way it is now handled. Hopeful Anne Russell.

Not too sure about that one, leaving oneself wide open and the tenant knows you are not holding any money at all if the place is not correctly left. Been a landlord for many, many years and find even to pay for a thorough clean the money is there. Try to give back the full deposit usually but it does give the landlord that bit of leway. Dont know if it is puting too much ownness on the tenant as you are puting your complete trust in them, big responsibility, really not sure. Anne R.

Having watched a programme last night on landlords trying desperately to get their, repeat their property back because tenants not paying the rent. Why O why does it take so long to get a tenant out who is not paying to live in the property - end of story. No dispute they are living there so must pay rent, what is there to dispute? I respect the law of the land but it is just madness for a judge to give the tenant more time why ! The tenant just ends up being more and more in debt so making it an impossible amount to pay when they are finally made to leave. Where is the dispute, no rent,no stay. Do judges think we landlords are rolling in it, or are we just a charity. Like me who lost months and months of rent before if I finally got them out then a huge bill from the solicitor. When I said what about sueing for the rent lose said, lets get them out first but of course they then disappeared ! Like many landlords I do not have a stack of houses and now retired live on my rents. I think the law has got to get more realistic on what is really happening and not just ignore the facts. If us small landlords decided we have had enough then the country would be in a right state, who would house all these renters, has anybody thought of that, let's hope the landlords don't go on strike ! I live in hope. Regards Anne R.
