Free landlord training and legal updates from new accreditation scheme

Newcastle council is seeking new members of its Landlord Accreditation Scheme, which it claims recognises and rewards “reputable landlords who offer good quality housing in the private rented sector.”

The initiative is free to join and aims to ensure rental properties are safe, secure and great places for people to live.

The council claims accredited landlords receive a range of benefits, including:

- Recognition that you are a professional and reputable landlord providing good accommodation;

- Your property will be more attractive to prospective tenants;

- Free support and advice on managing your property;

- Up-to-date information on new legislation and compliance requirements;

- Access to an online library of documents such as tenancy agreements and notices;

- Free training, workshops, and educational materials on topics such as landlord responsibilities, tenancy management and legal requirements;

- You will be listed on the Council’s accreditation website and

- A dedicated telephone line for enquiries of landlords with accredited properties.

A spokesperson for the council says: “There are lots of fantastic privately rented properties available in the city which meet the diverse needs of residents. We firmly believe everyone in Newcastle deserves to live in a safe and secure place that they are proud to call their home.

“We are very fortunate to have so many reputable landlords who deliver a high level of service and offer great value for money to tenants occupying their properties. Through the Landlord Accreditation Scheme, we are committed to working with landlords and residents to ensure we maintain high housing standards in the city.”

To become accredited, landlords are required to meet specific criteria and standards set by the Council, which include:

- Ensure properties meet all legal and safety standards;

- Tenancies should be managed fairly and responsibly and tenants’ rights and privacy should be respected;

- Ensure properties are in a good condition and repair and maintenance issues are addressed promptly;

- Landlords must maintain and enhance their knowledge and understanding of their responsibilities.

    Time to scrap the Accreditation Schemes it’s just more websites and computer digital meddling creating money streams for themselves making more people homeless. We were landlords before they were born and they are going to train us.
    It’s a conspiracy from all angles and all out attack on Private LL’s can they not get a real job and do something useful like actually earn a living instead of creating Homelessness.
    62k Families 124k Children homeless, £1b bill to keep in temporary accommodation, 9k on the waiting list in Ealing alone and you are determined to increase all this by attacking LL’s driving them out and creating so much red tape that he cannot function with the weight, time and costs of administration so nothing to do with reducing the homeless but boosting the figures.

    On the money as usual Michael.

    A lot of public sector people are a total waste of space. Thankfully a lot are not well paid, but the heads are grossly overpaid. A bit like Shelter and Polly Bleate on her £150k.

    They don't work hard when they are at work, take lots of sickies. They don't contribute to society. But these overpaid council busybodies dream up nonsense like this to create work for themselves and others. Show they have 'championed' something. Usually some woke nonsense like helping the 'under dog' like improving tenants rights, or mayors with their congestion charge, Low Emissions Zone, ULEZ rip of schemes.

    Do they help society and improve??? does crime fall under these people, does the debt ever decrease?? No just keep spending money on rubbish and achieve nothing.

    Last thing I need is advice from the public sector …

    Attract more tenants? No need in the current market! Be better landlords? I hope they’ve booked a room big enough for all the rogue landlords who will turn up - a stationery cupboard will suffice. Laughable!
