Phil Spencer’s online consumer service Move iQ has created a series on its YouTube channel looking at living in Build To Rent communities.
The series is a combination of episodes sharing the features, advantages and tips on renting in a BTR - from Spencer himself - plus Move iQ presenters showcasing BTR developments, with participating operators.
All content is being released via a Build to Rent playlist that will be featured on the Move iQ YouTube channel home page and promoted across both Move iQ and Spencer’s social media platforms, raising awareness to consumers about this rental tenure.
Spencer comments: “Our Build To Rent series aptly coincides with the latest 'Who Lives in Build-to-Rent? Report', which confirms the increasing popularity of BTR amongst UK renters, a trend we are also noticing at Move iQ.
“It’s a really interesting and important sector of the housing market providing essential housing when we have a distinct shortage of stock.
“I was particularly interested in the affordability findings from the report that stated BTR has comparative levels of affordability to the private rented sector for all tenancy types – therefore making them much more affordable for anyone sharing.
“It’s important to consider what these developments offer and the potential savings that a renter could make. For example, many developments have a gym, co-working space, communal area etc. So, there is the potential to save yourself money if you have these memberships elsewhere.”
Spencer launched moveiQ.co.uk to share his years of experience, and advice for consumers moving home.
His belief that everyone should have access to impartial unbiased advice, led to the further launch of the Move iQ YouTube channel and The Move iQ Podcast, the first property podcast providing advice to the consumer.
He says Move iQ’s aim is to help make the home moving process in the UK more efficient through education “and championing best-in-class brands that are consumer-facing and relevant.”

The BTR model is the housing equivalent of a Venus fly trap…. Once they have you, you will not escape the ever increasing rents and service charges.
Lots of BTR blocks have gone up in Manchester and from my observation they are much more expensive than the existing PRS rentals.
So Mr Spencer is championing BTR? Is that right - wonder who is paying oh so sorry I mean sponsoring this? 🤔
BTR might be the future... I'm selling off my portfolio in Scotland and will be looking for something else to invest in... Hmmm... I wonder....?
It’s amazing how all those lame ducks groups knows what better for everyone, yet none of them have any input whatsoever or put a roof over anyone’s head. Hello who’s Property is it anyway do you not think the Property owners should have a say.
Until they start to build "normal" family homes with outside space and rent them at affordable rents BTR will never be a good long-term solution to the housing shortage.
True, but the government seem to be ignoring this salient fact, we will get the blame of course 😂👍🏻
