Rogue Landlords to be listed on new Property Portal

The government has outlined how a new ‘portal’ will carry the rogue landlords database and be available to the general public.

In its long-awaited response to a formal consultation on access to the rogue landlords database - set up back in 2018 - the government acknowledges that the data has not been as widely used as it could have been by tenants and local authorities.

So the government now says: “We will introduce a new Property Portal to make sure that tenants, landlords and local councils have the information they need.

“The portal will provide a single ‘front door’ for landlords to understand their responsibilities, tenants will be able to access information about their landlord’s compliance, and local councils will have access to better data to crack down on criminal landlords.

“We also intend to incorporate some of the functionality of the Database of Rogue Landlords, mandating the entry of all eligible unspent landlord offences and making them publicly visible.”

The portal idea was first mooted in the Fairer Private Rental Sector White Paper released in June.

It is widely thought this portal will also serve as a national register of all private landlords although this has not been confirmed by government.

You can see more details on the government's consultation and response on the database here.

What about rogue tenants? Silly me, will not happen.

It's only fair to make it a landlords and tenants database right?

Terrible idea. The Landlord being categorised as a rogue landlord may face attack and death threats etc. When landlords are accused of wrongdoing the situation may not always be black and white either. Tenants can cause damage themselves and blame landlords, for example - mould is a prime example. I know of an instance where a tenant caused a water leak in a cellar in order to create rising damp, as an example.

What will be the criteria for being a rogue LL and who is the arbitor?

Let's get the Rogue Idiot Politicians database (RIP) set-up first.
But I think the website would crash - too much data.

The ongoing wokery is astounding, as said… who decides what makes a bad landlord, and I can only assume that if a tenant gets a ccj for rent arrears then they qualify for a ‘ rogue’ tenant database 🤔🤔

Without rogue landlords who will house rogue tenants, ''horses for courses''

    icon

That hits the nail on the head Andrew. Best get some more social housing built quick because the few properties left to rent will be for gold plated tenants only

I think it will be helpful to a large number of Tenants, if they can’t pass the checks. Have a look on this Register you’ll find a LL that will be happy to take you.

There are more Rogue Tenants than Landlords, who after not paying the Rent, trashing the Property, upsetting Neighbours are helped by stupid Council Housing Dept’s to remain in a Property. There should definitely be a rogue Tenant register.

There may be some defaulters, but not a unlawful and blame 'undeclared' war on innocent landlords who cannot deliver the governement's legislation, with implied terms. I am sorry I do not understand the government's language that does not make business sense, when the system, particularly from NI and Scottish in-depth experience does not have the initial good faith truth primary legislation mindsets (implied+ express terms) in protected tenancies (tenant landlord; letting agent landlords, solicitor landlords in we agents follow the rules and code of practice of letting agents/others with the missing implied terms -- just shift the goal posts to express terms) in a 2-way never ending blame landlord arguments that cannot be delivered. It would appear that 'Right and wrong' solicitors' hands are tied/not allowed by our Councils, politicians express terms without any implied terms needed for customers' care whether tenant, landlord or investor in a system' failure. Seemingly needing something like an Act of Parliment to FIX the Consumer law's reasonable 'skill and care' - to FIX the dysfunctional system for a workable implied+express terms (google “Youtube videos on the overriding statutory Implied legislation UK”). So the risks as a landlord are too great when things go wrong/will go wrong when there is no comeback in a government's unfair and controlled system, which is reality is unfair trading criminal practices by David Smith. This is in comparison with the Right solicitor (limited) and Contract law used in say the councils' Road contracts (happy marriage between Implied + express terms)

This looks like the post of a thousand rabbit holes. What is the point you are making here William?

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue or make much sense to be honest.
Did you understand what you meant?

    I agree Robert.

It's completely discrimination. It should be for both if they wanted.
In my opinion there should be national database for both the records of landlords and tenants where everyone could see all to tackle all issues.

Apparently, our new PM has been through the WEF global leaders program. The WEF's many plans for our future include around-the-clock surveillance and removal of our rights to own land and property. Digital currency ("just around the corner") will certainly take away our ability to control our finances. They also want to herd us all away from the countryside into smart cities. Check out "The Line" a proposed smart linear city in Saudi. Not something I'd fancy living in. Do your own research, don't read newspapers and don't believe the government.
