Strict guidelines for AirBnb and holiday let landlords set by council

York council has set out strict guidelines for Airbnb style short lets and for holiday rentals.

A statement from the Labour-controlled authority says: “Holiday lets can impact on the local environment and services. They can affect the living conditions of nearby residents, the character of an area, community cohesion due to noise and disturbance, litter and waste generation, parking pressures and loss of local housing.

“As an owner or manager of a holiday let, you must run your business within the law, while respecting your neighbours and the local environment.”

The council then sets out detailed guidance on issues such as planning consent for some kinds of rental properties, safety issues, tax, parking, noise abatement, waste management and other aspects of letting.

A council spokesperson says: “This guidance is aimed at providing clarity to the sector and to anyone considering opening a new holiday let.

“Whilst the Government is currently considering national regulation of holiday lets, we are very mindful of the impact they can have on local residents and neighbourhoods and we are doing what we can locally to support residents.

"The guide will help to ensure that anyone considering or running such a business is aware of their responsibilities.”

The council’s have them firmly in their sights, expect more draconian legislation to come soon….. and it will be a nice little earner I bet 💰💰

To be fair it looks like good advice on the whole. As usual there will be those who follow all the guidance, and those who just ignore it.

Agreed. I’ve got short let’s and there is nothing that concerns me here as we are already doing it all.

They will leave no stone unturned in increasing regulation to the point that it makes doing anything a massive chore.
Also, there will be increased taxes on the back of it.
The Welsh so- called government, are going down this path, with massive council tax hikes on second homes and a tourist tax.
When, not if, Labour win the next election, they will make it almost criminal to own property or to make a living out of it, without massive overregulation and punitive taxes.
Being a rogue landlord is almost going to become a necessity in future, as being 'on the radar' means that they are going to take us for every penny.

More bureaucracy and jobs for the ‘boys’, more tax to squander, and another step closer to state socialism.
As with all these things, it marks the beginning of an inept attempt to ‘over control’, this time, tourism is to be assaulted.
So, less holiday homes, private landlords selling out, no hope of meeting house building targets and burgeoning demand. Well, have t they done well!

The is some nonsense going on due to Regulation’s.
I see a normal 3 bed 1930 Terraced house bought converted and refurbished to meet the Regulation’s.
Loft added, back additional added, all rooms have cooking, Washing facilities & Toilet.
Now licensed for 8 persons obviously there will be more staying there.
    8 washing machines now delivered.
Come on now what kind of nonsense is this, how many KWh is this, didn’t see any new electric supply going in.
    No Sitting Room.
    No provision for parking ….
    I rest my case.

PS. The rooms are advertised for £800. / £900. each.
